What €20 buys in Europe: the best-rated experiences under twenty euros, from Berlin to Lisbon

Every experience under €20 rated 4.7 or better by a thousand people in Glentio's European cities, ranked by rating, from a €11 Warsaw walk to the Orsay for €13.

Twenty euros is a sandwich and a coffee at an airport. In the cities below it is a two-hour walk through the Third Reich and the Cold War with 9,800 reviews behind it, the Orsay, the Prado, a fado show with a glass of wine, or a canal cruise at sunset. The list is every experience in our partner's catalogues for Glentio's European cities that costs €20 or less and is rated 4.7 or better by at least a thousand people, as read on October 1. Fifty-five listings met that bar; the best are below, ranked by rating and then by how many booked. Prices are "from" prices in euros.

Three tickets fall a tenth of a point short of the cut above and belong here anyway, because the rating is the queue, not the rooms.

Booking happens on the partner's site; Glentio earns a small commission at no extra cost to you.

What the list says

The money is in walking tours: 22 of the 55 listings are walks, and the four best-rated things on the page are walks in Budapest, Berlin, Amsterdam and Bucharest. Amsterdam has the most entries, 14, nearly all on or beside the canals. The east is cheapest and best-rated at once; the Warsaw, Bucharest, Zagreb and Sofia entries average 4.86 for an average of €17.

For visitors from the US

Twenty euros is about twenty-two dollars and your card converts at the rate on the day; decline the terminal's offer to charge in dollars. Dates on posters are day first: 10/10 is October 10. Tipping a walking-tour guide is normal and five euros is generous.

For Europeans

Every city on the list is a budget-airline route and most of the walks take bookings the same morning. The four eastern cities are the cheapest weekends on Glentio by a distance; a walk, a show and a boat in any of them is under €60.

For visitors from East Asia

Mid-October is after Golden Week and the walks run smaller. The walking tours run in English, the Amsterdam city tour in five, and the museum tickets are tickets; the listing names any other language. Tax-free forms are at the till for purchases above each country's minimum.
