Prague in October: the castle, the river at dusk, a concert in a chapel and a beer with its history

Prague in October is the city at its most photographed and least crowded: the trees along the Vltava turn, the summer tour groups have gone, and the castle's slots are easy to get. The bookings below are from our partner's Prague catalogue, 294 experiences as read on October 1, ranked by how many people booked and how they rated them. Prices are "from" prices in euros. Wednesday October 28 is Czech Statehood Day, a public holiday; the castle gardens are the place to spend it.

The castle, in two versions
- Official entry ticket to Prague Castle, from €18. Rated 4.4 by 21,300, the most-booked ticket in the city. It is an entry, and the castle is a district, not a building: without a plan you will walk past the things worth seeing.
- Castle tour with a local guide and entry ticket, from €52, 4.7 from 11,800. The better-rated version by a margin, and the one to take once. The skip-the-line ticket with optional audio guide, from €30, 4.3 from 11,500, sits between them in price and below both in rating.
The river, three ways
- 50-minute sightseeing evening cruise, from €18. The most-booked experience in Prague, 42,800 reviews at 4.2. The rating is honest: a big boat, a short loop, and the bridges lit, which is what people come for.
- Jazz boat live jazz cruise, from €49, 4.7 from 2,200. The best-rated cruise in the catalogue, a trio on board, and the one to pay for.
- Evening cruise with buffet dinner and live music, from €69, three hours, 4.3 from 7,400, if dinner has to be on the water.
Music, in a chapel or a ballroom
- Classical concert in the Mirror Chapel, from €31, an hour, 4.7 from 6,300. The baroque chapel of the Klementinum; the best-rated concert in the city for the price of dinner.
- Mozart ballroom concert with a three-course dinner, from €110, 4.8 from 1,300, the best-rated and the expensive one.
- Medieval dinner with unlimited drinks, from €64, 4.5 from 22,400. The second-most-booked thing in Prague. It is exactly what it sounds like and the reviews are cheerful about it.
Beer, ghosts and a day in the hills
- Pilsner Urquell experience and beer tasting, from €24, 4.7 from 4,150. The best-rated tasting in the catalogue, in the city that invented the style.
- Guided street-food walking tour, from €68, 4.8 from 630.
- Ghosts, legends, medieval underground and dungeon tour, from €27, 4.3 from 7,200. October's walk, rated modestly by a lot of people.
- Bohemian and Saxon Switzerland semi-private day, from €140, rated 5.0 by 600, the best-rated day trip in the catalogue: the sandstone gorges and the Bastei bridge, in the one month the forest is the colour the photographs show.

Free around it
Prague's free October on Glentio is small and specific. The city's architecture centre, CAMP, runs a beginners' running club: the Letná metronome route on Thursday October 8 at 07:00 and Wenceslas Square, a place being rebuilt in public, on Thursday October 22 at 18:00, both from the Dancing House at a pace anyone can hold. The municipal library's Dejvice branch runs a free VR screening on Wednesday October 7, 16:00 to 18:00. The rest of the month is on Glentio's Prague page.
For Europeans
Prague is a short flight or a train from Vienna, Berlin and Munich. Book the guided castle for the first morning and the Mirror Chapel for the first evening; the jazz boat is the Saturday. Vienna is the same format four hours down the line.
For visitors from the US
Dates are written day first: 28/10 is October 28, the holiday. The castle tour costs about a Broadway rush ticket, the chapel concert about a cinema seat, the Bohemian Switzerland day about a short domestic flight. Book the castle and the day trip before you fly; the cruises take bookings the same day.
For visitors from East Asia
Mid-October is after Golden Week and before the Christmas markets, which open in late November and double the crowds. The Czech Republic applies a minimum purchase per receipt for a VAT refund; ask for the tax-free form at the till. The partner tours run in English; the concerts need no language.
