Zagreb in October: Plitvice in the right version, the WWII tunnels walk rated 4.9, and Bled in a day
Which Plitvice day to book from Zagreb, the city-and-tunnels walk for €18, the Ljubljana-and-Bled day, a canyon kayak and a food walk, by rating.
- For Europeans
- For visitors from the US
- For visitors from East Asia
Zagreb's paid list is the best-rated in the Glentio catalogue by average: four of its six most-booked experiences are rated 4.9. The reason is the day trips, and October is their month, when the Plitvice lakes turn and the coaches are half empty. The bookings below are from our partner's Zagreb catalogue, 68 experiences as read on October 1, ranked by how many people booked and how they rated them. Prices are "from" prices in euros. Zagreb's own free October listings on Glentio are thin this month, so this is a bookings story; the city page is here.

Plitvice, settled
- Plitvice Lakes and Rastoke guided day trip with the park ticket, from €72, ten hours. Rated 4.9 by 3,900, the most-booked and best-rated experience in Zagreb. The lakes, the boardwalks, the mill village of Rastoke, the park entry included, which in October is the month the water is highest and the beech forest is the colour it is photographed in.
There is a near-identical second listing at the same rating; this one has more reviews, which is the only tie-breaker that matters.
The city, in two and a half hours
- City and WWII tunnels walking tour with the funicular, from €18, two and a half hours, 4.9 from 1,660. The upper town, the Grič tunnel under it, and the world's shortest public funicular, for the price of a lunch. The best-rated tour in the catalogue and the right first afternoon.
- Restaurants, food and old-town walking tour, from €89, 4.8 from 210, the food version.
The other day out
- Ljubljana and Lake Bled guided day trip, from €82, ten to eleven hours, 4.9 from 1,280. Two countries in a day: the Slovenian capital and the lake with the island church. If the trip has two long days in it, this is the second.
- Mrežnica canyon kayaking, from €55, 4.9 from 390, the best-rated thing on the water, an hour from the city, on a river of travertine steps.
Booking happens on the partner's site; Glentio earns a small commission at no extra cost to you.
How to fit it in three days
Day one: the tunnels walk in the afternoon, dinner in the upper town. Day two: Plitvice, all of it. Day three: Ljubljana and Bled, or the kayak if the budget or the legs say no to a second coach. The two long days both leave before eight; book the walk for the day you arrive.
For Europeans
Zagreb is a short flight from most of the continent and the cheapest excellent day-trip base on this list. Book Plitvice and the tunnels walk; the Bled day takes bookings a few days out. Ljubljana is two hours away and runs the same format from the other side of the border.
For visitors from the US
Dates on posters are day first: 10/10 is October 10. Prices above are in euros; the Plitvice day costs about a theme-park ticket at home, the tunnels walk about a cinema seat. Book Plitvice before you fly; it is the one that fills.
For visitors from East Asia
Mid-October is after Golden Week and after the Adriatic summer, so fares and hotels are at their calmest. Croatia applies a minimum purchase per receipt for a VAT refund; ask for the tax-free form at the till. The partner tours run in English; Plitvice needs no language.
