Budapest sells the river more than any city on Glentio: five of the ten most-booked experiences are boats. The bookings below are from our partner's Budapest catalogue, 271 experiences as read on October 1, ranked by how many people booked and how they rated them, with the boat question settled first. Prices are "from" prices in euros; the city itself is in forints. Friday October 23 is the 1956 anniversary, a national holiday, with the Parliament lit and the bridges full.

The Danube, settled
- Unlimited prosecco, beer, Aperol and limoncello spritz cruise, from €25. Rated 4.8 by 49,300, the most-booked experience in the city and, unusually for a drinks cruise, the best-rated of the big boats. The Parliament from the water at night is the Budapest photograph, and this is the boat most people took it from.
- City highlights sightseeing cruise, from €16, an hour, 4.6 from 46,900, the daytime version without the drinks.
- By-night sightseeing cruise with a welcome drink, from €11, 4.4 from 24,800, the cheapest hour on the river and rated accordingly.
- Dinner cruise with live music and a folk-dance show, from €67, 4.4 from 2,200, if dinner has to be on the water; the rating says the river is better than the dinner.
The baths and the buildings
- Széchenyi Spa tickets with optional upgrades, from €39, 4.3 from 28,100. The third-most-booked thing in the city; the rating is the crowd, not the water, and October is the month the outdoor pools steam.
- St Stephen's Basilica entry with options, from €12, 4.6 from 15,000. The dome climb is the option to take.
- Parliament building entry with audio guide, from €43, 4.5 from 6,000. The slots go days ahead in October; book before you fly, and not for October 23.
- Historic Buda Castle walking tour, from €54, 4.9 from 1,050, the best-rated ticket in the catalogue.
Music, food and the ground under the city
- Classical concerts in Matthias Church, from €60, 4.6 from 900, in the church on Castle Hill.
- Budapest food walking tour, eat, sip and explore, from €69, 4.8 from 1,560, the best-rated food tour; or the chimney-cake workshop, from €20, 4.9 from 1,490, the cheapest hour on this page and the one children remember.
- Adventure caving tour with a guide, from €73, rated 5.0 by 1,540. The best-rated experience in the Budapest catalogue by a distance: the limestone caves under the Buda hills, on your hands and knees, with a helmet. Not for the claustrophobic and not to be missed by anyone else.

Free around it
Budapest's free October on Glentio is one room, the library hall of the Budapest Music Center, the home of Hungarian new music, which programmes concerts with no admission charge: a memorial concert on Saturday October 10 at 18:00, Kollár Zsuzsa's piano evening built around Debussy on Saturday October 17 at 18:00, and Songs of Devotion, sacred songs by Purcell and his contemporaries, on Monday October 26 at 19:00. Pair the Matthias Church concert with one of these and you have heard the city's two ends of the repertoire. The rest of the month is on Glentio's Budapest page.
For Europeans
Budapest is a short flight or a train from Vienna. Book the Parliament and the caving before you fly; the boats take bookings the same day. Vienna and Prague run the same format on the same line.
For visitors from the US
Dates are written year first on Hungarian posters: 2026.10.23 is October 23, the holiday. Prices above are in euros; the spritz cruise costs about a cinema ticket at home, the caving about a nice dinner. Nothing here needs a car.
For visitors from East Asia
Mid-October is after Golden Week and before the Christmas market on Vörösmarty tér, which opens in November. Hungary applies a minimum purchase per receipt for a VAT refund; ask for the tax-free form at the till. The partner tours run in English; the Parliament audio guide is in Japanese, Korean and Chinese.
