Things to do in Europe

Europe's best-rated day trips under €50: Sintra for €24, Plitvice for €36, Delphi for €35

Sixteen day trips across Glentio's European cities, each under €50 and rated 4.8 or better by 500 people or more, ranked by rating, with the version to take.

A day trip is the most expensive thing most people book on a city break, and it does not have to be. The list below is every day trip in our partner's catalogues for Glentio's European cities that costs under €50 and is rated 4.8 or better by at least 500 people, as read on October 1: sixteen of them, from 6,787 experiences in 31 cities. They are ranked by rating, then by how many people booked. Prices are "from" prices in euros. Where a city sells the same day two ways, the better version is named.

What the list says

Lisbon has six of the sixteen, including the cheapest Sintra day in Europe. The east is where the perfect ratings are: Bucharest's three-castle day and Zagreb's Plitvice day are the two best-rated things on this page and cost €64 together. Nothing on the list needs a car, and only two cross a border.

For Europeans

Every day on this list leaves from a city with a budget-airline route, and the two cheapest great ones, Bucharest and Zagreb, are also the cheapest flights. Book Plitvice and Sintra before you fly; the rest take bookings a day or two out.

For visitors from the US

Prices above are in euros and the whole list is under the cost of one theme-park day at home. Dates on posters are day first: 10/10 is October 10. Delphi and Wicklow are the two that explain the country they are in; Sintra and Montserrat are the two that need a morning start to beat the coaches.

For visitors from East Asia

Mid-October is after Golden Week and after the European summer, so the coaches above run half full. Every tour on the list runs in English; the listing names any other language. Tax-free shopping forms are at the till in every country on the list.
