Long-time Bali writer Jean Couteau launches two books at the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival: a witty portrait of everyday Balinese life and the pull between tradition and modernity, and a richly illustrated guide, co-authored with Georges Breguet, to the island's intricate calendar, rituals and spiritual worlds, with drawings by Balinese artist I Gusti Nyoman Darta. An easy, free way to start a festival morning.
