Things to do in North America

North America's best-rated day trips: Niagara for $52, the Valley of Fire, Death Valley, whales off Vancouver

Every day trip rated 4.7 or better by 300 people from Glentio's seven North American cities, ranked by rating, from a $52 Niagara day to the Grand Canyon.

The best day trips on the continent leave from Las Vegas, and the cheapest great one leaves from Toronto. The list below is every day trip in our partner's catalogues for Glentio's seven North American cities that is rated 4.7 or better by at least 300 people, as read on October 1: 25 listings, ranked by rating and then by how many booked. Prices are "from" prices in US dollars, as the catalogue lists them, including the Canadian cities. Where a city sells the same day two ways, the better version is named.

What the list says

Las Vegas has twelve of the 25 and every 4.9. Chicago and Miami have none: the Everglades airboats, Miami's day out, are rated 4.1 to 4.5 and did not make the cut. The cheapest great day is Niagara at $52 and the dearest is the Grand Canyon at $346; between them, the $99 Valley of Fire van is the best-rated thing on the page and the one to book first.

For Americans

Las Vegas is the base for the best day trips on this list; the Valley of Fire van and the Death Valley day fit a long weekend. Niagara from Toronto is the cheapest great day on the continent.

For Europeans

Prices above are in US dollars; your card converts. Dates on posters are month first: 10/12 is October 12. The ESTA for the US and the eTA for Canada are applied for on the official government sites. The Grand Canyon from Las Vegas is a seventeen-hour day; the Valley of Fire is the same landscape in six, an hour from the hotel.

For visitors from East Asia

Mid-October is after Golden Week and the canyon coaches run half full. Every tour on the list runs in English; the listing names any other language. The two Canadian cities are a separate entry from the US and the eTA is applied for separately.
