Vancouver in October: whales, Capilano, a seaplane, the Sea to Sky, and a free outsider-art festival
Which whale-watching trip to book from Vancouver, Capilano, the seaplane, Grouse and the Sea to Sky day, by rating, plus the Roundhouse's free month.
- For visitors from the US
- For Europeans
- For visitors from East Asia
October is the last clear month before Vancouver's rain, and its paid list is almost entirely outdoors, which makes the forecast the first thing to book around. The bookings below are from our partner's Vancouver catalogue, 188 experiences as read on October 1, ranked by how many people booked and how they rated them. The catalogue lists its prices in US dollars, so that is how they appear here. The free programme around them is the Roundhouse in Yaletown, on Glentio's Vancouver page today.

On the water and in the air
- Whale and wildlife watching with free photos, from $181, five hours. Rated 4.8 by 3,100, the most-booked experience in Vancouver and the best-rated of the long days. October is the end of the orca season; the operators say so and the reviews bear it out.
- Original Panorama seaplane, mountain and coast, from $133, thirty minutes, 4.8 from 2,050. The best-rated tour in the catalogue and the one the city is built for: take off from the harbour, the mountains, the inlet, down again.
- FlyOver flying theatre, from $29, 35 minutes, 4.7 from 1,940, the indoor version for the day it rains.
The bridge, the mountain and the gondola
- Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, from $55, 4.8 from 2,850. The best-rated ticket in the catalogue; October is the month the park's canyon lights have not started and the crowds have gone.
- Grouse Mountain Skyride, from $66, 4.6 from 830, the other North Shore ticket, with the view back over the city.
- Sea to Sky Gondola and Whistler day trip, from $119, eleven hours, 4.8 from 990, the best-rated day trip: the highway up Howe Sound, the gondola at Squamish, Whistler before the snow.
- Victoria, the Gulf Islands cruise and Butchart Gardens, from $163, thirteen hours, 4.7 from 1,500, the long day to the island, with the gardens in their autumn planting.
On foot and on a bike
- Gastown historical walking food tour, from $117, 4.8 from 650, the best-rated food experience.
- Guided bike tour, from $80, 4.9 from 560, the best-rated of the wheeled tours; the seawall around Stanley Park is the route, and October is the month the maples on it turn.
Booking happens on the partner's site; Glentio earns a small commission at no extra cost to you.
Free around it: the Roundhouse
Vancouver's free October on Glentio is the Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre in Yaletown, the old railway turntable building. On Thursday October 8 at 16:00 Raven Spirit Dance opens a rehearsal of Tracing Bones, a new work by Starr Muranko, and talks about it afterwards. From Friday October 16 to Sunday October 18 the tenth Vancouver Outsider Arts Festival fills the building for three days with work by artists who have no gallery and no dealer, Canada's only festival of its kind. Book the seaplane or the bike for the same weekend and the Roundhouse is a five-minute walk from the seawall.
For visitors from the US
Dates in Canada are usually written year-month-day: 2026-10-12 is Thanksgiving Monday. Vancouver is the standard pair with Seattle; the seaplane and Capilano are a weekend without a car, the Sea to Sky day needs the tour's bus. Los Angeles runs the same format down the coast.
For Europeans
Prices above are in US dollars before Canadian tax, except the partner tickets, which are all-in. October is the month to come: after it, the rain is the city's weather until March, and the whale boats stop.
For visitors from East Asia
Mid-October sits between Golden Week and Thanksgiving, so flights are at their calmest, and Vancouver is the shortest flight to North America from most of East Asia. Cards and phones work everywhere; Canada has no VAT refund for visitors. The tours run in English with Mandarin, Cantonese and Korean departures listed separately on the partner's site.
