Europe's best-rated food tours and cooking classes: nata in Porto for €30, pasta by the Vatican for €35

Every food tour, tasting and cooking class rated 4.8 or better by 500 people across Glentio's European cities, ranked by rating, with prices from €20 to €120.

The best-rated thing to eat in Europe, by the people who paid for it, is a custard tart you make yourself in Porto for €30. The list below is every food tour, tasting and cooking class in our partner's catalogues for Glentio's European cities that is rated 4.8 or better by at least 500 people, as read on October 1: 35 listings from 955 food experiences in 31 cities. They are ranked by rating and then by how many booked. Prices are "from" prices in euros and the class price includes what you eat.

What the list says

Rome, Lisbon, Porto, Athens and Valencia hold 26 of the 35. The cheapest way onto the list is to cook rather than be fed: the seven classes under €36 are all rated 4.9 or 5.0, and the tours with dinner run €59 to €120. The pastel de nata is the most-taught dish in Europe by this measure, with four classes across two cities, and Porto's is cheaper and better-rated than Lisbon's.

For visitors from the US

Prices above are in euros; the Vatican pasta class costs about a casual dinner for two at home and feeds you. Dates on posters are day first: 10/10 is October 10. Tipping a class host is not expected; tipping a food-tour guide is, and ten percent is generous.

For Europeans

Every city on the list is a budget-airline route and the classes take bookings a day or two out; the Rome and Lisbon tours fill a week ahead in October. The two Valencia entries and the Porto nata class are the best value on the page.

For visitors from East Asia

Mid-October is after Golden Week and the classes run smaller. Every class on the list runs in English; the listing names any other language. Pork and shellfish are in most tours by default; the booking note is where to say otherwise.
