October is the month Palma gets back to itself. The beach crowd has thinned, the city's own programme restarts, and the second week brings a long weekend: Monday October 12 is a national holiday in Spain, so the Saturday-to-Monday stretch is the busiest of the month for locals and the quietest for shops. Everything below is on Glentio's Palma page today, with the dates as the organisers published them.

The weekend: a circus festival in two squares
Palma Circ 2026 is the city's free open-air circus weekend, and this year it runs on Saturday October 10 and Sunday October 11. Saturday's shows are in Plaça de Francesc Garcia i Orell, with Génesis at 11:00, Jump y olé at noon and Mongolia Legacy at 13:00. Saturday ends after dark with Circ de Nit: Vórtice, a fire-and-light piece at 21:00 in Plaça de Pere Garau, the square that holds the city's biggest working market and is rarely programmed for anything on this scale.
Sunday moves to Ses Voltes, the open-air arena beneath the cathedral ramparts, and the shows run back to back: Dynamic Explosion at 14:00, Circular Circus at 16:00, Soul of Art at 17:00 and Gran Hotel at 18:00. Arrive once and stay for the sequence. All of it is free and for all ages, programmed by the city's culture department.
If you would rather leave town, the same Saturday the Consell de Mallorca opens the Raixa estate for Octubre a Raixa: guided discovery of the Italianate garden, its terraces and water system, from 10:00. Raixa is in Bunyola, about 15 km from Palma on the Tramuntana foothills, and it is the closest thing to a day in the mountains without a day of planning.
A drink on Tuesday and Thursday
The one listing this week published directly by its organiser is Drinks at Mas Amor, an easy early evening at a cocktail bar on Carrer de Bonaire in the old town. It runs on Tuesday October 6 and again on Thursday October 8, from 18:00 until late, with no cover charge. The organiser calls it one of the best cocktail bars in town; the address is Carrer de Bonaire 21, two minutes from the Born.
Four exhibitions, all free, all with an end date
- Aitor Ortiz: Gaudí. Impresiones íntimas at Can Balaguer, Carrer de la Unió 3, until November 15. Photographs that work Gaudí's surfaces towards abstraction, shown in a restored merchant's house, in the city where Gaudí worked on the cathedral.
- F. Chopin & G. Sand at Castell de Bellver, until October 27. The winter of 1838 on Mallorca, told with paintings from the Museu de Mallorca and museography from the Chopin Institute in Warsaw. Go for the castle as much as the show.
- A media lumbre at Casal Solleric on the Born, until October 18. Several floors of contemporary work in a palace whose courtyard and staircase justify the visit on their own.
- Bel Fullana: Club Miseria. The Last Beat, also at Casal Solleric, until January 7. A club without a dark room, where visitors are meant to linger rather than file past.
Casal Solleric and Can Balaguer are a five-minute walk apart, so the first, third and fourth fit one afternoon. Bellver is a bus or a steep walk up through the pines, and the view over the bay is the reason to make it a separate morning.
Later in the month
On Thursday October 15 at 19:00, Can Balaguer hosts a lecture on Ramon Llull's Ars Magna and the origins of artificial intelligence, given in Spanish by Luis Salvador Moll Fernández-Figares. Llull was a Mallorcan, and the line from his thirteenth-century combinatorial machine to modern computing is the island's best claim on the subject.
The last week of October is Mallorca's own, not Halloween's. The Nit de les Ànimes is the island's All Souls tradition of lights and stories, and the city libraries programme it for children: a session for six-to-twelve-year-olds at the Son Ximelis library on Wednesday October 28 at 17:45, with registration required, and stories with Maria Barceló at the Josep Maria Llompart library on Saturday October 31 at 11:00, from age four, free until the room is full.
Worth booking
The weather is the reason to book anything on the water now rather than in August: most Octobers the sea is still warm enough to swim and the boats are half as full. From our partner's Palma catalogue, checked on October 1:
- Cathedral of Mallorca skip-the-line ticket, from €11. The single most-reviewed thing to do in the city, and the queue it skips is real on cruise-ship mornings.
- Five-hour catamaran cruise with lunch and a swim, from €59.
- Sunset boat tour with music, from €45, three hours.
- Island tour by boat, tram and train from the south, from €103, eight hours. The classic Sóller circuit done for you.
Booking happens on the partner's site; Glentio earns a small commission at no extra cost to you.

For visitors from the US
Dates in Spain are written day first, so 10/10 on a poster is October 10 and 12/10 is October 12, the holiday. Prices above are in euros and your card will convert them; the cathedral ticket is about the price of a sandwich at home, the island tour about a theatre ticket. Distances are short: the Born, Casal Solleric, Can Balaguer and Ses Voltes are all within a mile of each other, and Raixa is a 20-minute taxi or the Sóller-bound bus. Most shops close on Sundays; the exhibitions above do not, apart from the holiday.
For Europeans
Palma is a short flight from most of the continent and the airport bus into the centre takes about half an hour. The circus weekend coincides with the October 12 long weekend, so if you are coming from elsewhere in Spain, book the flight now rather than the week before. The Chopin exhibition closes on October 27 and A media lumbre on October 18, which makes the weekend of October 17 to 18 the last chance to see both in one trip.
For visitors from East Asia
Mid-October is after Golden Week and before the Christmas season, so fares and hotels are at their calmest and the old town is walkable without the summer crowds. Spain sets no minimum purchase for a VAT refund: ask for the tax-free form at the till, keep the receipts, and validate the forms at the airport kiosk before you check in your bags. Pay with a card; Alipay and WeChat Pay are accepted at only a few larger stores. English is spoken at the partner tours and the cathedral; the library sessions and the lecture are in Catalan or Spanish.
