About this event
For eight hours, roughly eight miles of Manhattan belong to people instead of cars. Summer Streets clears Lafayette Street and Park Avenue from the Brooklyn Bridge up through East Harlem and Inwood, and fills it with rest stops offering free fitness classes, activities for children, public art and street food. Walk it, run it, cycle it, or simply stand in the middle of Park Avenue because you can.
Why we picked it
The final Manhattan date of 2026 and the single best day of the year to see the city's main avenues without a single car on them.
Free entry
NYC DOT runs Summer Streets as a free public open-streets programme with free activities at rest stops; dates and 07:00–15:00 hours corroborated by the Flatiron NoMad partner listing. The nyc.gov page could not be fetched directly at verification time.
