About this event
Volunteers hand out kayaks and life jackets on the Hudson so anyone can paddle a protected stretch of water with the Manhattan skyline behind them. No experience needed and no booking taken: you queue, sign a waiver and go out for a short paddle. Weekend sessions run 10am to 4.30pm, with extra Tuesday and Thursday evening slots until 27 August and the season closing on 4 October.
Why we picked it
One of the few genuinely open-water experiences in the city that costs nothing, and it needs no kit, no club and no advance planning.
Free entry
Organiser states the programme is free and first come, first served. Volunteer-run. Note the boathouse is closed on Saturday 15 August for Volunteer Appreciation Day.
Registration
Registration needed
No reservations taken; walk-up queue, waiver signed on site each visit, must be able to swim. Sign-up line often closes early when busy.
A third-party event from official public listings, checked by Glentio. Programmes can change — confirm on the organiser's site.
