About this event
The Brooklyn Museum throws open its doors for a five-hour Caribbean-flavoured edition of its legendary First Saturdays. Metro Steel Orchestra and the First Panamanian Marching Band play the lobby and plaza, DJs Ultraviolet and NotNice take over the Beaux-Arts Court, and there are curator talks, a movement workshop, pop-up poetry, hands-on art-making and a Brooklyn makers' market spread across five floors.
Why we picked it
New York's biggest free museum party, and the August edition hands the entire building over to artists of the Caribbean diaspora.
Free entry
Free, and includes Museum general admission; registration recommended but walk-ins welcome, first come first served. A separate $30 ticket is required for the 'Iris van Herpen: Sculpting the Senses' exhibition only.
