The Charlie Parker Jazz Festival opens its 34th year in Harlem with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra under music director Sherman Irby, joined by trumpeter Marquis Hill and vocalist Ekep Nkwelle. The festival deliberately stages itself in the neighbourhoods where Parker lived and worked, and every performance across the weekend is free.
