About this event

Brussels has planted the Meyboom on 9 August since 1213, when the city's men saw off a raid from Leuven. A beech is felled, paraded through the old quarters behind giant puppets and brass, and must be in the ground before five o'clock or the right is forfeited for a year. UNESCO-listed, gloriously chaotic, and entirely a street affair.

Why we picked it

An eight-hundred-year-old UNESCO folk ritual that plays out in the street with no ticket and no barrier.

Free entry

Free admission, per the City of Brussels' own event page; it is a public street procession.
