On the last Sunday of each month the Vatican Museums — including the Sistine Chapel — open with free admission to all, from 9am with last entry at 12:30pm. It's the one regular chance to see Michelangelo's ceiling and the Raphael Rooms without a ticket, so early arrival is essential to beat the substantial queues.
