Latvian makers fill Cathedral Square for the city's birthday with linen, ceramics, amber, woodwork and honey, running from mid-morning until late evening. It is the traditional craft counterweight to the concert stages down on the embankment, and browsing costs nothing. A sensible first stop before the main programme starts in the afternoon.
