Oslo in October: the fjord in the right boat, the islands, a shrimp buffet at dusk, and two museums on a pass
Which Oslofjord cruise to book, the island-hopping tour rated 4.8, the wooden sailing boat, the dusk shrimp buffet, the bike tour and a two-museum pass.

Oslo's paid list is the fjord, sold in six versions, and the only useful thing a list can do is pick. The bookings below are from our partner's Oslo catalogue, 87 experiences as read on October 1, ranked by how many people booked and how they rated them. Prices are "from" prices in euros; the city is in kroner and nearly cashless. October is the last month most of the boats run and the first the islands are empty. Oslo's own free October listings are not yet on Glentio, so this is a bookings story; the city page is here.

The fjord, settled
- Guided sightseeing fjord cruise on a premium silent boat, from €64, 4.7 from 2,100. The best-rated of the cruises: electric, quiet, a live guide. Pay the difference once.
- Scenic fjord cruise with audio commentary, from €40, 4.5 from 6,700, the most-booked and the standard version.
- Oslofjord traditional sailing cruise on a wooden boat, from €40, two hours, 4.5 from 6,200. The same water under sail; October winds make it the better October choice.
- Two-hour electric Oslofjord sightseeing with audio guide, from €46, 4.4 from 2,400, the lowest rating on this page.
- Fjord evening cruise with a shrimp buffet, from €77, three hours, 4.5 from 2,100. Dinner on the water, Norwegian-style, which means peeling your own; the dusk in October is the reason.
The islands, and the city on two wheels
- Island-hopping tour, from €37, 4.8 from 3,300. The best-rated experience in the Oslo catalogue with more than a thousand reviews: the inner-fjord islands by public ferry with a guide, the swimming spots now empty, the cabins shut for winter.
- Three-hour highlights bike tour, from €41, 4.8 from 1,900. Oslo is compact and the waterfront from the opera house to Bygdøy is the route.
- Oslo discovery tour with two museums included, from €96, 4.7 from 420, the best-rated ticket, for the day it rains.
Booking happens on the partner's site; Glentio earns a small commission at no extra cost to you.
How to fit it in two days
Day one: the bike tour in the morning, the silent boat after lunch, the shrimp buffet at dusk. Day two: the islands by ferry with the guide, and the museum pass if the weather turns. The wooden sailing boat replaces the silent boat if the forecast is wind rather than rain.
For Europeans
Oslo is a short flight from most of the continent and a train from Stockholm and Gothenburg. Book the silent boat and the islands; the bike tour takes bookings the day before. Stockholm and Copenhagen run the same format.
For visitors from the US
Dates on posters are day first: 10/10 is October 10. Prices above are in euros; the silent boat costs about a theatre ticket at home, the shrimp buffet about a nice dinner, which it is. Nothing here needs a car.
For visitors from East Asia
Mid-October is after Golden Week and before the Christmas season. Norway is outside the EU and applies its own minimum purchase per receipt for a VAT refund; ask for the tax-free form at the till. The partner tours run in English; the boats have audio in Japanese, Korean and Chinese.
