The best free view in New York costs a signature and a slightly damp pair of shorts. Brooklyn Bridge Park's volunteer boathouse runs short paddles from the Pier 2 dock in the sheltered embayment between Piers 1 and 2, with the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan skyline directly overhead. Kayaks, paddles, vests and beginner instruction are all provided; first-timers are welcome.

Completely free. Sessions are roughly 20 minutes on the water. Under-13s must be accompanied in the boat by a parent or guardian; ages 14–17 may paddle solo with a signed waiver and an adult present. Waivers required for everyone.
