The Downtown Boathouse opens specially for Labor Day, adding a Monday to its usual weekend schedule right at the tail of the season. Free kayaks, free life jackets, free volunteer coaching, and a holiday crowd that tends to arrive early. If you have been meaning to try the Hudson all summer, this is close to the last comfortable chance before autumn.
