Margareten's pumpkin festival takes over a square for five hours: pumpkin carving, face painting, music, street performance, a torch procession and pumpkin soup. Free to attend, outdoors, and squarely aimed at families. It is the most seasonal thing on Vienna's free calendar this month and a good fit for a late-October afternoon.
