About this event
On the first Sunday of each month Rome's civic museums and the Italian state's cultural sites drop their admission charge. In August that means the Capitoline collections, the Ara Pacis and the imperial sites are open for nothing on a day when the city is half-empty. Go early: the queues form before opening and some sites cap numbers.
Why we picked it
A single dated Sunday when Rome's biggest museums cost nothing, in the quietest month of the year.
Free entry
Free entry to Rome Capital museums and national cultural sites on the first Sunday of the month. Major temporary exhibitions inside those museums may still be ticketed.
