On the first Sunday of every month the Italian culture ministry opens every state museum and archaeological park in the country for nothing, and in Rome that is an unusually large list. No card, no residency test, no age bracket: everyone walks in free. Go early, because the queues at the biggest sites form well before opening and some venues require a booked slot even on a free day.
