About this event

For nine days Phuket Town turns white as devotees honour the Nine Emperor Gods. Dawn processions leave the Chinese shrines through Old Town streets amid firecrackers and incense, entranced devotees perform striking rituals, and vegetarian food stalls line the roads under yellow flags. The festival closes on 18 October with a bridge-crossing purification and a night-time send-off at Saphan Hin. Wear white, bring earplugs and keep a respectful distance from the processions.

Why we picked it

Phuket's most intense living tradition, unfolding for free on the streets of the old town.
