Architect William Bialosky uncovers Collect Pond, the freshwater lake that once shaped the physical and social map of Lower Manhattan, and argues that what is buried under a neighbourhood shapes it for generations. He also reflects on MOCA's own move to 215 Centre Street, the former machine-repair shop that Maya Lin converted into the museum in 2009 — a building he helped deliver.
