About this event
Costumed children gather at the Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument on Riverside Drive and parade down to Hippo Playground, with Ramblin' Dan's Freewheelin' Band playing them along. Run by Riverside Park Playground Partners and funded entirely by the spring Hippo Fair, it is the Upper West Side's own small-scale Halloween procession — daylight, pushchair-friendly, over before dinner.
Why we picked it
The daytime, little-kid answer to the Village Parade on the same evening — same date, opposite energy, and the organiser states outright that it is free.
Free entry
Organiser states: "This event is fully funded by proceeds from the Hippo Spring Fair and is FREE to attend." The listing also carries the standing Summer on the Hudson line, "free and open to the public".
Registration
Registration needed
No registration. Seating where provided is unreserved and first-come, first-served; cancelled in heavy rain.
A third-party event from official public listings, checked by Glentio. Programmes can change. Confirm on the organiser's site.
