About this event
A docent-led walk through how a derelict freight viaduct became the city's most-copied park: the rail history, the self-seeded landscape that argued for keeping it, and the planting decisions that still shape it. Ninety minutes, led by trained volunteer guides, and the gardens are at their late-season best in early October.
Why we picked it
Free, year-round and genuinely good — the docents are volunteers who know the park's plant list, not a scripted sightseeing pitch. Worth getting to the Gansevoort stairs early, since spots go first-come.
Free entry
Organiser states: "Join us for a free tour led by High Line Docents" and, in its FAQ, "Free public tours are available year round. These tours are first come, first served."
