Turn up at the Dredgers' 2nd Street boathouse, get a life jacket, a paddle and a short safety briefing, and take a canoe out on the Gowanus for a self-guided trip. No experience needed. There is an audio tour covering the canal's industrial history and its long, contested cleanup if you want the context while you drift.
