About this event

Rods, bait and instruction are handed out on the pier and children learn to cast into the Hudson, then identify and release whatever comes up — striped bass, oyster toadfish, blue crab. It is catch-and-release, free, and quietly one of the best pieces of environmental education the city runs. Three piers, three afternoons a week, no equipment of your own required.

Why we picked it

Free, hands-on and genuinely educational, with drop-in sessions on most days of the window across three different Hudson piers.

Free entry

Free, catch-and-release only, with all equipment provided. Note the Saturday Pier 51 season ends 22 August.
