About this event
New York's great participatory Halloween night: thousands of costumed New Yorkers, giant puppets and bands moving up Sixth Avenue through Greenwich Village. The 2026 theme is Body and Soul, led by Firehorse, a new puppet by Basil Twist choreographed by Julie Atlas Muz. Anyone in costume can join the march; everyone else lines the avenue. Rain or shine.
Why we picked it
The single biggest free thing happening in New York on Halloween, and genuinely participatory rather than spectator-only — turn up in costume and you are in the parade. Crowds thin above 14th Street if you arrive late.
Free entry
Organiser states verbatim: "THE PARADE IS A FREE PUBLIC EVENT!" Watching and marching in costume are both free. A paid VIP grandstand area is sold separately — that is the only ticketed element.
Registration
Registration needed
None to watch or to march. Costumed marchers assemble on Sixth Avenue between King Street and West 15th Street; Sixth Avenue buses are rerouted from about 18:00.
A third-party event from official public listings, checked by Glentio. Programmes can change. Confirm on the organiser's site.
