About this event

Madrid's annual heritage-opening week runs for a full seven days for the first time, with 205 buildings and roughly 250 activities — guided tours, concerts, talks, workshops and exhibitions — free of charge. Palaces, monasteries, archives, libraries and university collections that are normally closed or ticketed open their doors, and 22 institutions are taking part for the first time.

Why we picked it

The one week a year when Madrid's closed-door heritage is walkable for free, at 205 sites — extraordinary breadth, and it lands immediately after the Hispanidad weekend so a visitor can chain the two.

Free entry

esmadrid.com states the 205 heritage sites "can be visited free of charge" and counts 249 free activities. Some individual tours are capacity-limited.
