About this event
The state ceremony that formally opens the national holiday: the Hungarian flag is raised in front of Parliament with full military honours, and newly commissioned officers take their public oath on Kossuth Square. Early, formal and short, it is the best-staged hour of pageantry in the Hungarian calendar and flows straight into the air parade over the river at nine.
