Frederik Smal: Common Silent Places

Welcome to a solo exhibition by Frederik Smal exploring memory, tenderness and belonging through minimal line drawings in Brønshøj Water Tower. "Some places exist only inside us. A hand that held ours. A place where we lost someone, learned to forgive, or quietly found hope again." – Frederik Smal Common Silent Places is a solo exhibition of minimal line drawings by Frederik Smal inside Brønshøj Water Tower. The drawings are placed among the tower’s concrete columns, giving these emotional places a physical form. There is no fixed route and almost no text telling you what to see. You move through the circular room and meet the works one at a time. The empty concrete, the natural light, the distances between the drawings and the sound moving through the tower are all part of the exhibition. The simplicity of the drawings meets the complexity of the water tower’s monumental architecture. Their small scale and quiet expression create a different way of experiencing the vastness of the space. Frederik Smal: "The works begin with my memories, but they are not only about me. They are left open so you can bring your own: a person, a touch, a loss, or something small that quietly brought hope back. The exhibition is free and non-commercial. There is no traditional opening night and no particular way you need to understand the work. Come on your own or bring someone with you. Walk through the room. Stay with something, if it asks you to. I hope you will come and meet the work quietly."
