Volunteers hand out sit-on-top kayaks, life vests and basic instruction for free public paddling sessions in a protected stretch of the Hudson. It's entirely first-come, first-served with no booking system, so arriving early - especially on weekend afternoons - makes the difference between a short wait and a long one.
