Cristian Macelaru, artistic director of the George Enescu Competition, opens five days of conducting masterclasses to the public. Sessions run as working rehearsals with the Romanian Youth Orchestra, with Macelaru stopping, rebuilding and explaining interpretive decisions in front of the room. It is the rare chance to watch an orchestra being shaped rather than hear the finished result.
