On the first Sunday of every month, Italy's Ministry of Culture waives admission at state-run museums, archaeological sites and monuments nationwide. In Rome that means free entry to heavyweights like the Colosseum, Galleria Borghese and Palazzo Barberini - though a few, notably the Borghese, still require a mandatory (also free) time-slot reservation, so book ahead.
