The city conservatoire opens its symphonic season with Beethoven and Berlioz, played twice on consecutive evenings so there is a second chance if the first fills. Student orchestras at this level are startlingly good and the hall is small enough that you feel the brass in your chest. A ninety-minute concert that costs nothing and still counts as a proper night out.
