The world's largest free kayaking programme puts you on the Hudson with no booking, no fee and no experience required. Volunteers hand you a boat, a life jacket and a twenty-minute paddle inside the protected embayment off Pier 26. Turn up, sign the waiver, queue briefly, and you are on the water with lower Manhattan rising behind you.
