About this event
Barcelona's oldest street festival, running unbroken since 1589 and declared a heritage festival of national interest by the Generalitat. Five days of gegants, capgrossos, bestiari, diables and correfoc fill Plaça Nova beside the cathedral, alongside sardanes, children's games and neighbourhood dinners run by the Associació de Festes de la Plaça Nova. Deeply traditional, entirely outdoors and free to walk into.
Why we picked it
The city's oldest festa major, staged in the Gothic Quarter — an unbeatable heritage-and-atmosphere story for mid-August visitors.
Free entry
